Salt Lake City, UT (January 22) – HEAL Utah, a leading environmental advocacy organization, announces its top priorities for the 2024 legislative session. HEAL Utah remains committed to advancing policies that protect communities from air pollution, build an inclusive clean energy future, promote climate resilience and health equity, and safeguard communities from toxic and radioactive waste. These priorities reflect our dedication to creating a sustainable and healthy future for all Utahns.
Promoting Renewable Energy Sources: HEAL Utah is dedicated to policies that promote the use of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and geothermal power. This includes supporting initiatives that incentivize utility-scale renewable energy production. By encouraging the transition to clean energy, we aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat the effects of climate change.
Encouraging Rooftop Solar: In addition to large-scale renewable energy, HEAL Utah supports policies that make it easier for individuals and businesses to install rooftop solar panels. This can help reduce reliance on fossil fuels at the local level and empower communities to take control of their energy sources.
Expanding Electric Vehicle Infrastructure: HEAL Utah advocates for the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, including charging stations. This encourages the adoption of electric vehicles, which produce fewer emissions than traditional gasoline-powered cars. By investing in EV infrastructure, we can reduce air pollution and promote a cleaner transportation system.
Promoting Public Transportation: HEAL Utah believes in increasing access to and the reliability of public transportation. This can help reduce the number of vehicles on the road, decreasing air pollution and congestion. Improved public transportation options also enhance mobility for all residents.
Equitable Building Decarbonization: HEAL Utah supports policies that promote equitable building decarbonization, which involves making buildings more energy-efficient and transitioning away from fossil fuels for heating and cooling. By investing in energy-efficient buildings, we can lower energy costs, reduce emissions, and improve indoor air quality.
Supporting Communities: Recognizing the importance of communities historically dependent on the fossil fuel industry, HEAL Utah advocates for policies that facilitate the development of employment and training opportunities in the renewable energy sector. This ensures a just transition for workers and communities, while also advancing clean energy solutions.
Transparency and Accountability: HEAL Utah is committed to advocating for transparency, accountability, and public participation in environmental decision-making processes. We believe in ensuring that the voices of Utahns are heard when it comes to issues of environmental protection and sustainability.
HEAL Utah looks forward to working with legislators, community partners, and concerned citizens to advance these critical priorities during the 2024 legislative session. Together, we can build a healthier future for all Utah residents.
