Dear Senator,
Please vote to ratify the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). Utah has suffered tremendously from nuclear weapons testing: the Nevada tests have been estimated to have caused up to 11,000 deaths and 212,000 cases of thyroid cancer, many of which occurred in Utah. America has over 9000 active nuclear warheads; an arsenal more than large enough to guarantee our national security and that of our allies. Nuclear testing is only necessary for the development of new nuclear weapons; an unwise course of action likely to escalate the pursuit of nuclear weapons worldwide. The CTBT will protect Utahns, giving them additional security and ensuring that future generations will not suffer the health complications caused by nuclear testing. Please support the CTBT in the senate and ensure that Utahns will live in a secure nation where they don’t have to worry about health hazards from nuclear testing
