Nuclear Waste

Every step in the nuclear fuel cycle has affected Utah. And when it comes to nuclear waste, we have experienced a legacy of being targeted for nuclear waste dumps of past, current, and future wastes streams. Whether it was the now defeated Private Fuel Storage facility, the EnergySolutions (formerly Envirocare) Low-Level nuclear waste dump, or even the proposed Yucca Mountain project in neighboring Nevada, Utahns have had their share of the nuclear waste experience.

HEAL Utah remains dedicated to removing the nuclear waste target off of this great state.

Italian nuclear waste? No, Grazie!

EnergySolutions wants to import Italian nuclear waste for ultimate disposal in Utah. The public comment period drew nearly 4,000 comments overwhelmingly against the proposal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). But with EnergySolutions suing to dump this waste in Utah, we need national legislation to ban foreign nuclear waste. Help keep foreign nuclear waste out of Utah

Teach Senators Hatch and Bennett to say "No Grazie!"  Make sure our senators speak up for Utah, rather than stay silent for EnergySolutions.  Urge Sen. Hatch & Bennett to co-sponsor S3225, a bill to ban the disposal of foreign nuclear waste in the U.S.  Click here to sign our petition!
