The first and one of the dirtiest steps in the nuclear fuel cycle is uranium mining. Utah has been negatively impacted by uranium mining for decades and a nuclear power revival would likely repeat this dirty past.

Utah is now poised to dash headlong back into uranium mining. There have been 18,000 new claims filed in Utah and Colorado in the last two years. The Utah Geological Survey has already seen over 6,000 uranium claims filed.
