Inaugural campaign raises more than $800K for Utah nonprofits

SALT LAKE CITY — The statewide Love UT Give UT online giving campaign, a 24-hour effort to raise awareness and funds for some 400 Utah nonprofits, netted more than $800,000 in its inaugural day of giving Friday.

Total donations could reach $915,000 once the nonprofits report whether the giving reached levels required by matching and challenge grants, said Fraser Nelson, executive director of the Community Foundation of Utah, which coordinated the effort.

 It was well into the evening of March 7 when Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck presented legislation to the Utah Legislature’s Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment Committee. She had asked me to attend the hearing to answer any legal questions about HB346, designed as a response to the shroud of deadly air pollution that settles on the Wasatch Front each winter.
