Reimburse taxpayers…

The Moab Times Independent

Grand County personnel attended a meeting in Green River, Utah on March 28 and 29, 2012 to help prepare an evacuation plan for Moab in case of a nuclear disaster at the proposed Green River Plant. The plan is required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in order for Blue Castle Holdings Inc. to complete its application.

Blue Castle Holdings Inc. should be required to reimburse local public entities and Grand County taxpayers for all costs incurred for their participation.

Local taxpayers cannot afford spending an unknown amount of money for nuclear accident evacuation plans that are premature and will only benefit a private company and its application to the NRC. Moab will be one possible destination site for the residents of Green River, and Moab will be responsible for emergency shelter and health care, among many other items.

Blue Castle Holdings Inc. has told the State of Utah that it has sufficient funds – up to $100,000,000 – to complete the preliminary site plan, which includes the emergency evacuation plan for the nuclear plant.

The meetings on March 28 and 29 cost Grand County taxpayers several hundred dollars for school, county, health department, and Castle Valley personnel to attend. Call the following and ask that all past personnel cost, travel costs and all future costs be billed to Blue Castle Holdings Inc. for the preparation of their nuclear emergency evacuation plan.

Grand County (259-1342); Grand County Emergency Management (259-8115); Grand County School District (259-5317); Moab City (259-5121); City of Castle Valley (259-9828).
