Sunday’s op-ed on the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty by Catholic Bishop John Wester and Episcopal Bishop Scott Hayashi is a welcome articulation of support for a treaty that makes moral sense as well as good national security sense (“Pass nuclear test treaty,” Opinion, Oct. 16).

In addition to religious leaders, ratification of the CTBT also enjoys support from many national security experts, such as former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Gen. Colin Powell.

Thank you, bishops, for your effort to align our nation’s moral responsibility with its national security.
